Willow Class

Welcome to Willow Class

Willow class is taught by Mrs Ash. Mrs Liverton is the teaching assistant.

Each half term, the class will be set a homework project linked to their curriculum theme. In order to make maths fun and enjoyable, we will also send a maths fluency fact sheet home for the term, which gives the opportunity for children to spot mathematical patterns, make mathematical connections and speed up their calculation skills. They will also have a list of spellings for the term. All of the letters, which contain this information, are recorded on this page under Willow Curriculum Information.

P.E. will be on a Wednesday and a Friday, please make sure your child comes to school in their full school PE Kit. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and that if your child cannot take out their own earrings that they are taken out before school. We will be trying to get outside as much as possible.

Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records.

This Term's Theme: Stone Age to Iron Age

Our Learning Journey for Autumn Term 1 is: Stone Age to Iron Age

Our theme for Spring term 1 begins with a History and Art focus.

In History we will be exploring the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We will be investigating when the Stone Age was and what was so significant about it. We will also be studying the Bronze age and Iron Age and drawing comparisons throughout each time period. In Art, we are going to be using techniques to create our own cave paintings and explore the different materials that they use to create art during that time period.

In writing, we are going to be focusing on creating holiday brochures using Skara Brae as our inspiration for this. This will enable the children to explore non-fiction and build on the skills and knowledge that they already have. For their independent writing stage, the children will then use all of the skills that they have learned to write a holiday brochure about Stonehenge. In maths this term we will begin with exploring Place Value, recapping what we already know and using this to deepen our knowledge and challenge our understanding. We will then move on to Addition and subtraction later on in the term. Within our Science topic this term we will be investigating ‘Rocks’. Through careful observations, experimentation and asking questions we will be learning about the different types of rocks there are, how fossils and soils are formed and even creating our very own fossils too. During PSHE we will be focussing on the unit ‘Being Me in my World’, We will be looking at setting personal goals, how I can work to achieve them, whilst also exploring that my actions affect myself and others.
