Willow Class

Welcome to Willow Class

Willow class is taught by Mrs Ash. Mrs Liverton is the teaching assistant.

Each half term, the class will be set a homework project linked to their curriculum theme. In order to make maths fun and enjoyable, we will also send a maths fluency fact sheet home for the term, which gives the opportunity for children to spot mathematical patterns, make mathematical connections and speed up their calculation skills. They will also have a list of spellings for the term. All of the letters, which contain this information, are recorded on this page under Willow Curriculum Information.

P.E. will be on a Monday and a Friday, please make sure your child comes to school in their full school PE Kit. Please ensure that long hair is tied back and that if your child cannot take out their own earrings that they are taken out before school. We will be trying to get outside as much as possible.

Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records.

This Term's Theme: Stone Age

Our theme for Spring Term 1 begins with a History and Art focus.

In History we will be exploring how and why the Romans invaded Britain. We will explore what life was like before, during and after the invasion. In Art, we are going to be using techniques to design and create mosaics just like the Romans. We will also explore the work of contemporary mosaic artists.

In writing, we are going to be focusing on creating a biography about Julius Caeser.  This will enable the children to explore non-fiction and build on the skills and knowledge that they already have. We will then further develop our non-fiction writing with a diary about a young slave.

In Maths this term we will continue to develop our Addition and Subtraction skills in year 3 and Multiplication and Division in year 4.

Within our Science topic this term we will be investigating ‘Forces and Magnets. Through careful observations, experimentation and asking questions we will be learning all about the different types of magnets and understand how they work.

During PSHE we will be focussing on the unit ‘Dreams and Goals, we will be looking at different challenges and how to overcome them.
