Year 3 & 4
Welcome to Years 3 and 4
This Year, Mr Fisher will teach Wolves class supported by Mrs Tomlin-Barfoot, and Miss Davies and Miss Flavin join us to teach Owls and Badgers with the help of Mrs Moden and Mrs Jones.
Maths homework will be set termly, with different fluency facts being sent home each term for the children to practise at home. A termly project will also be sent home, which will relate to our current topic.
Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records and their books will be changed by an adult when required. In class, we will be reading in groups where we will explore texts in more depth to further develop our understanding by discussing predictions and finding evidence.
This Term's Theme – ‘Rise of the Robots’
Our theme for the first term is ‘Rise of the Robots’ where the children will use their inquiry skills to find out how and why robots have developed, and how they feature in the world around us. This links with our study of electricity in science, where the children will explore and build simple circuits, which they will then have the opportunity to apply in order to build a working ‘robot’. They will learn how to design and build a simple ‘ArtBot’ and then evaluate the effectiveness of their design by thinking about the materials they chose, how successfully they put it together and whether they connected their circuit correctly.
The Iron Man by Ted Hughes will be the focus of our English lessons. This text is about the arrival of a mysterious metal man from outer space who wreaks havoc on a local community before befriending a small boy.
