Welcome to Year 4
In Year 4, Miss Collett will teach Owls class and Mr Bosworth will teach Swifts, both classes will be supported by Mrs Tomlin-Barfoot.
Maths homework will be set termly, with different fluency facts being sent home each term for the children to practise at home. A termly project will also be sent home, which will relate to our current topic.
Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records and their books will be changed by an adult when required. In class, we will be reading in groups where we will explore texts in more depth to further develop our understanding by discussing predictions and finding evidence.
Our PE days are on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure that correct PE uniform is in school on these days. A gentle reminder that layers will be needed as the weather begins to cool for autumn and winter.
This Term's Theme – ‘Through the Keyhole.’
In our Learning Journey we will be using our Geography skills and focussing on map reading to plot key areas of our local environment, use a key, complete scaled drawings and recognise symbols on Ordinance Survey maps. We will focus particularly on Rushden Lakes and compare the natural environment with the man made. We will also focus on Art and produce a ‘through the key hole’ style drawing of Rushden Lakes using different materials to create a 3D effect. As part of our journey we will explore different techniques, such as; tone, pattern, texture and using complimentary colours.
