Welcome to Year 4
In Year 4, Miss Collett will teach Owls class and Mr Bosworth will teach Swifts, both classes will be supported by Mrs Tomlin-Barfoot.
Maths homework will be set termly, with different fluency facts being sent home each term for the children to practise at home. A termly project will also be sent home, which will relate to our current topic.
Your child has been given an independent reading book to read at home, which is suitable to their word recognition and comprehension skills. They should record their reading in their reading records and their books will be changed by an adult when required. In class, we will be reading in groups where we will explore texts in more depth to further develop our understanding by discussing predictions and finding evidence.
Our PE days are on Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure that correct PE uniform is in school on these days. A gentle reminder that layers will be needed as the weather begins to cool for autumn and winter.
This Term's Theme – ‘Eager Engineers’
Our topic for this term is Eager Engineers, which will delve into all things mechanical. This term our pupils will use their knowledge of simple mechanisms to design, create, invent and engineer a product that will make everyday life easier. In Design and Technology, they will carry out research to assess the need for a new invention, carefully create blueprints and then create their invention, finally they will evaluate their product. In History, we will be learning about engineers who have impacted the world we live in. During Science we will be investigating magnetisms and forces: What is a force? What type of forces can we think of? How do forces affect us? How are magnets used? In English our focus text is Rosie Revere, Engineer, and this will form the basis of our writing this term, where we will be writing to inform through Newspaper reports and letters. At the end of the term we will celebrate our learning with a visit from MAHLE who will talk to us about: what engineers do, how they design new products. We will then be designing and creating a model car that we will then race down a ramp.
